Dreams: Some really do come true!

Chapter 1

Mira looked at her plate. “Spaghetti and meatballs again,” she muttered. It was her little brother Bobby’s favorite food. It was the only thing he would eat without a fuss.

“I had a dream, mom,” Bobby said. “I dreamt I lost my first tooth, this one.” He pointed to one of his front bottom teeth. “When I woke up I looked for it, but then I saw it was still inside my mouth!”

Oh, here we go again! Every morning he tells one of his dreams. Why does he always have dreams? I never have dreams. Anyway, what’s the big deal about having a dream. Mira put her plate in the sink and went to take a shower.

That night while Mira lay in bed she decided to force herself to have a dream. She thought of all the things she could dream about:  playing music, being an astronaut, or becoming a famous artist. She made up her mind to dream about becoming an astronaut. Her eyes closed and pictures of floating in space played in her head.

Mira was by the Loeb Boathouse in New York City standing in line to rent a boat. She looked down and saw she was wearing her favorite nightgown, blue with yellow flowers. Her feet were bare. The denuded branches of the trees swayed in the wind. The snow fell slowly and silently on to the ground. The grey clouds glided over the city. She wrapped her arms around her chest and shivered. The people in front of her wore coats. Everyone stared at her. How did I get here? She panicked, turned around to run home, and bumped into a grey haired old man wearing spectacles and leaning on a walking stick. He fell into a young man waiting in the line behind him. The young man lost his balance and fell towards the people behind him. When Mira looked back she saw seven people lying on the ground yelling at her!

“Mira, wake up! We are going to Loeb Boathouse in Central Park. It will be fun,” her mother called. Mira woke up in fear, it was strange to be going to the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park when she had just dreamt about it.

I was just there a minute ago! Whatever!

Mira and her family stood in line by the Loeb Boathouse waiting to rent a boat.  It was a chilly Spring day. Mrs. Blah asked the kids if they wanted hot chocolate. Mira declined. Bobby and Mrs. Blah went to buy hot chocolate. As the breeze chilled her body, she decided she wanted hot chocolate. If she hurried, she could catch them. She turned around and bumped into a grey haired old man who fell into a young man waiting in line behind him. The young man wearing a red hat lost his balance and fell toward the people behind him. When Mira looked back she saw seven people lying on the ground yelling at her! Embarrassed she looked from side to side hoping to see her mother. She did not know what to do. She stood alone and scared. suddenly , she remembered. This was her dream! Her surprise at the replay of last night’s dream overshadowed her fear. In the dream she ran away, but this was different. She had to wait for her mom to return.

“Mira,” her mom said looking at her daughter’s worried face. “What happened?”

“My dream, my dream,” Mira cried.

“Is this your daughter? She knocked us down and she hasn’t even apologized,” said the old man.

“I – I – I’m sorry.” Mira said to the man then turned to her mother. “Please, can we go home, please? My dream! My dream! Can we go home, please?” she pleaded.

Mira, Bobby, and Mrs. Blah walked along Fifth Ave to their apartment on 84th Street.

“I can’t believe this,” Mira said.

     “Believe what” asked Bobby.

“What happened in my dream is what happened in the park. The people at the park are the same people that were in my dream!”

“How could that be?” replied her mom. “That’s impossible. If your dream is similar to what happened today, it is coincidence.”

Mira agreed with her mother, but inside she was not convinced.
