Chapter 4: The Test Of Friendship
Time passed by. Then one day they saw another animal! It was a Shark.
Puffer Fish was scared because she thought Shark wanted to eat her. However, Hedgehog, Skunk and Porcupine wanted to make friends with the Shark.
Puffer Fish whispered to her friends, “What are you doing! He is cunning, he eats everybody. He wants to eat me too.
The Shark got confused about who Porcupine, Skunk and Hedgehog were. He had never seen anyone quite like them.
He said, “Let’s all be friends!”
Puffer Fish wasn’t quite sure about Shark’s intentions. Puffer Fish thought “He is sneaky. He just wants to eat me!” She said aloud, “Let’s give Shark a challenge to see if he is worthy to be a friend.”
Shark didn’t know what to expect and said, “What do you want me to do?”
They said, “We need to discuss.”
They huddled in a corner, noses touching trying to brainstorm the perfect test.
Puffer Fish cried “He is going to eat me!”
Porcupine said, “Calm down.”
Skunk said, “How about we put Puffer Fish as a bait. We will hide nearby. If he decides to eat her then we will save her, and we will know his intentions.”
Puffer Fish moaned once again, “He wants to eat me! I am going to die!
Hedgehog said, “I like Skunk’s idea. It’s the only way we will know for sure what his true intentions are.”
They were ready and told Shark, “The first part of the plan is that we are all going fast for four days. After that, we are going to meet up and eat together.
Finally, it was the day of the test. The four friends set up Puffer Fish to wait for Shark while the others went and hid nearby.
Puffer Fish was not happy she kept wailing, “This plan is not going to work. He is going to eat me! You guys are making me fish bait.”
Then Shark arrived looking hungry and eager for food. He saw the lonely Puffer Fish cowering in the corner.
“Where are the others,” He boomed.
Puffer Fish simpered, “They are running a bit late.”
“Why?”
“Well… Skunk farted, and they fainted. They will be on their way as soon as they recover”
Puffer Fish saw Shark’s hungry face. She thought He is going to eat me!
She started to get ready to throw quills in case friendly Shark decided to become enemy Shark.
Suddenly there was a loud noise, it was Shark’s tummy grumbling for food.
All he could see was the Puffer Fish cowering in the corner. There was nobody around her. She looked like a tasty bite that was just too hard to resist!
He looked around once more to check for her other dangerous friends. He couldn’t see anyone. All thoughts of friendship flew out of his brain. He decided food was better than friendship.
He opened his big mouth ready to swallow Puffer Fish.
Hedgehog and Porcupine sprang into action throwing quills. Skunk released the dirtiest smell of his life.
Shark was stunned into inaction.
As he lay there thrashing in pain the four friends surrounded Shark and said together, You are too cunning to be a friend.
“Your friendship is not worthy. You are not trustworthy.”
